Synopsis

A Son of the Soil, portrays the life history of a young black Rhodesian, Alexio Shonga, who, after suffering the insults, humiliations, and injustices of a white dominated society, gives up his pursuit of education and takes to the mountains to become a guerrilla fighter. Katiyo narrates an African child's life history with sympathy and insight. The style is direct and lucid.

Review

It is a most interesting and at times even gripping story, but it has all the traces of being the work of an inexperienced writer. - Govind Narain Sharma, ASA Review of Books
