One of the first major contributions towards a reconstruction of the pre-colonial history of Zimbabwe making extensive use of oral traditions and archival records, especially those of the Portuguese. Mudenge has taken advantage of the earlier publication of the two books to place his own treatise within their general perspective, and the result is a comprehensive history of Munhumutapa.
