Church and Politics

From Theology to A Case History of Zimbabwe

Enda McDonagh

The book is out of print.

Synopsis

This work is the product of a study the author was asked to do by Roman Catholic leaders in (what was then) Rhodesia, to provide theological guidance concerning the escalating violence in that nation. McDonagh lays out a lucid contemporary consensus statement on natural law and human rights, with little attention to the alternative perspectives from which this consensus is challenged. The book also surveys the recent history of Rhodesia - Zimbabwe from colonisation to Mugabe.

Review

The author's serious attempt to provide theological norms for a nation undergoing revolutionary change is the book's major strength. - Norman E. Thomas, Journal of Church and State
