Synopsis

Edgar Tekere was a member of the Zimbabwe African National Union high command during the Rhodesian Bush War. After serving eleven and a half years in prison alongside Robert Mugabe, the men decamped to Mozambique in 1975. The book is not just about the past, it sheds light on the post-independence Zimbabwe under his erstwhile comrade, Mugabe.

Review

Tekere: A Lifetime of Struggle has emerged as both a corrective to the president's pretensions and a rare example of the power of local opposition. Tekere's book represents a significant intervention at a significant moment. - Iden Wetherell, Foreign Policy
