The primary motive for establishing a Lutheran Church in Zimbabwe was the desire to spread the Gospel to non-Christian people. The Swedish pioneer missionaries chose the Mberengwa-Beitbridge are because no other denominations were working there. During the first decades of the 20th century the work of the Lutheran Church was confined to this area. Today Lutheran parishes are found in most parts of Zimbabwe. The history of the Lutheran Church demonstrates how a mission became a Church and how this Church became indigenous. It also shows how a Church may contribute to the spiritual growth of the whole nation. Thus God Gave Growth depicts an important part of the history of Zimbabwe.
