We Shall Not Sleep

Chirikure Chirikure

Synopsis

This new volume of Shona poems is deeply imbued with a sense of traditional values. He probes and juxtaposes the contradictions, confusions, cant and subterfuge that bedevil the behaviour and attitudes of those who do not want to look critically at or play a part in the development of ourselves, nation, or cultures. Evasion and hypocrisy form the butt of his jokes and his challenge to think for ourselves.

Review

Chirikure Chirikure blends humour and anger, text and music to achieve a pointed, wicked, risky satire that always finds its mark in contemporary Zimbabwe. - Mickias T. Musiyiwa, Poetry International
