The Election Day Trilogy

Three stage plays that satirize tensions around elections

Christopher Mlalazi

Forthcoming.

Synopsis

The play that inspired the trilogy, Election Day, was first written as a short story published in a 2008 anthology Dancing With Life. The idea behind it was the 2004 Presidential election, and the several inconsistencies that marked it. The play did very well amongst cross platform audiences, and after the 2008 Presidential elections, two plays followed, The Debaters, and 2008, which are all a series that feature the same set of characters and events. The Debaters and 2008 have not made it yet to the stage, but are now joined together in this book which in a way is another stage, but within covers.

Review

The work of Christopher Mlalazi has been described as that which engages the mind, ruffles it, and uses the language of today’s Zimbabwe, township life ... and naked political falsehoods. – The Zimbabwean
