Welshman Hadane Mabhena

A Voice for Matebeleland

Marieke Clarke & Pathisa Nyathi

Synopsis

The book profiles the life of the late Welshman Mabena as a family man, liberation fighter and former Governor of Matabeleland North. Mabhena became godfather for Matabeleland and courted respect from many. He was a true son of the soil, whose life he dedicated to serve his own people. He respected fellow human beings, he was a favourite of the people and that was why he was affectionately referred to as uMawelishi.

Review

[Nyathi's and Clarke's] recent project affirms that their interests mainly in promoting national memory through biographies of luminary national icons comes from a more progressively-Ndebele archival record. - Richard Runyararo Mahomva, Sunday News
